Sealwood launched in October 2006 with the aim of providing locally sourced food to the local community. Starting with a small band of local producers we have now grown and have been able to add more products from more local farmers and producers.
Also responding to customer demands we have added sustainably sourced food which you just can’t buy locally, including organic and fair trade.
We have been pretty busy over the winter of 2007/08. We had a fantastic response from customers at Christmas and the Hugh Fearnley Wittingstall’s ‘Chicken Out’ campaign saw a rush of new customers eager to buy locally reared free range chicken.
As well as continuing our weekly deliveries we have been able to plant up a small orchard with apple and pear trees.
It’s now the long wait – about 4 years to get a crop big enough to offer for sale. In the meantime we have enjoyed some lovely blossoms on our baby trees.
Our plans for this year include being able to deliver to some other areas of Leicestershire, Warwickshire and Derbyshire that we have not been able to reach ourselves – using a local courier.
They will pick up produce in the morning and deliver it by the afternoon so it not only arrives fresh but has also travelled the minimum amount of miles.
We are keen to keep giving you a variety of new or different foods to try, produced locally and reflecting seasonality. Our offers are responsive to local and traditional production techniques. We will also keep introducing you to produce from new suppliers as we locate them. Recent additions to our list of Producers include:
